RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) has been developed to stage liver fibrosis. However, its diagnostic performance is inconsistent among studies. Therefore, it is worth studying the diagnostic value of various diffusion models for liver fibrosis in one cohort. AIM: To evaluate the clinical potential of six diffusion-weighted models in liver fibrosis staging and compare their diagnostic performances. METHODS: This prospective study enrolled 59 patients suspected of liver disease and scheduled for liver biopsy and 17 healthy participants. All participants underwent multi-b value DWI. The main DWI-derived parameters included Mono-apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) from mono-exponential DWI, intravoxel incoherent motion model-derived true diffusion coefficient (IVIM-D), diffusion kurtosis imaging-derived apparent diffusivity (DKI-MD), stretched exponential model-derived distributed diffusion coefficient (SEM-DDC), fractional order calculus (FROC) model-derived diffusion coefficient (FROC-D) and FROC model-derived microstructural quantity (FROC-µ), and continuous-time random-walk (CTRW) model-derived anomalous diffusion coefficient (CTRW-D) and CTRW model-derived temporal diffusion heterogeneity index (CTRW-α). The correlations between DWI-derived parameters and fibrosis stages and the parameters' diagnostic efficacy in detecting significant fibrosis (SF) were assessed and compared. RESULTS: CTRW-D (r = -0.356), CTRW-α (r = -0.297), DKI-MD (r = -0.297), FROC-D (r = -0.350), FROC-µ (r = -0.321), IVIM-D (r = -0.251), Mono-ADC (r = -0.362), and SEM-DDC (r = -0.263) were significantly correlated with fibrosis stages. The areas under the ROC curves (AUCs) of the combined index of the six models for distinguishing SF (0.697-0.747) were higher than each of the parameters alone (0.524-0.719). The DWI models' ability to detect SF was similar. The combined index of CTRW model parameters had the highest AUC (0.747). CONCLUSION: The DWI models were similarly valuable in distinguishing SF in patients with liver disease. The combined index of CTRW parameters had the highest AUC.

RESUMO

The primary objective of interactive medical image segmentation systems is to achieve more precise segmentation outcomes with reduced human intervention. This endeavor holds significant clinical importance for both pre-diagnostic pathological assessments and prognostic recovery. Among the various interaction methods available, click-based interactions stand out as an intuitive and straightforward approach compared to alternatives such as graffiti, bounding boxes, and extreme points. To improve the model's ability to interpret click-based interactions, we propose a comprehensive interactive segmentation framework that leverages an iterative weighted loss function based on user clicks. To enhance the segmentation capabilities of the Plain-ViT backbone, we introduce a Residual Multi-Headed Self-Attention encoder with hierarchical inputs and residual connections, offering multiple perspectives on the data. This innovative architecture leads to a remarkable improvement in segmentation model performance. In this research paper, we assess the robustness of our proposed framework using a self-compiled T2-MRI image dataset of the prostate and three publicly available datasets containing images of other organs. Our experimental results convincingly demonstrate that our segmentation model surpasses existing state-of-the-art methods. Furthermore, the incorporation of an iterative loss function training strategy significantly accelerates the model's convergence rate during interactions. In the prostate dataset, we achieved an impressive Intersection over Union (IoU) score of 88.11% and Number of Clicks(NoC) at 80% are 7.03 clicks.

RESUMO

We have developed a finite element model to simulate the penetration of nanoneedles into the cellular nucleus. It is found that the nuclear lamina, the primary supporting structure of the nuclear membrane, plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the nuclear envelope and enhancing stress concentration in the nuclear membrane. Notably, nuclear lamina A exhibits a more pronounced effect compared to nuclear lamina B. Subsequently, we further conducted experiments by controlling the time of osteopontin (OPN) treatment to modify the nuclear lamina density, and the results showed that an increase in nuclear lamina density enhances the probability of nanoneedle penetration into the nuclear membrane. Through employing both simulation and experimental techniques, we have gathered compelling evidence indicating that an augmented density of nuclear lamina A can enhance the penetration of nanoneedles into the nuclear membrane.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and serum chloride level are related to adverse outcomes in patients with heart failure. However, little is known about the relationship between the PNI and serum chloride level in predicting the poor prognosis of patients with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF). METHODS AND RESULTS: We reviewed 1221 consecutive patients with ADHF admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University from January 2017 to October 2021. After excluding patients with in hospital death, missing follow-up data, missing chloride data, missing lymphocyte (LYM) count data, or missing serum albumin data, 805 patients were included. PNI was calculated using the formula: serum albumin (ALB) (g/L) + 5 × LYM count (10^9/L). Patients were divided into 4 groups according to the quartiles of the PNI, and the highest PNI quartile (PNI Q4: PNI ≥ 47.3) was set as the reference group. The patients in the lowest PNI quartile (PNI Q1: PNI < 40.8) had the lowest cumulative survival rate, and mortality risk decreased progressively through the quartiles (log-rank χ2 142.283, P < 0.0001). Patients with ADHF were divided into 8 groups by quartiles of PNI and median levels of serum chloride. After adjustment, the hazard ratio (HR) for all-cause mortality in ADHF patients in Group 1 was 8.7 times higher than that in the reference Group 8. Furthermore, the addition of serum chloride level and PNI quartile to the Cox model increased the area under the Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve by 0.05, and the area under the ROC curve of the new model was higher than that of the original model with traditional risk factors. CONCLUSIONS: Both the lowest PNI quartiles and low chloride level indicate a higher risk of all-cause death in patients with ADHF.

RESUMO

The viscoelasticity of mechanically sensitive tissues such as periodontal ligaments (PDLs) is key in maintaining mechanical homeostasis. Unfortunately, PDLs easily lose viscoelasticity (e.g., stress relaxation) during periodontitis or dental trauma, which disrupt cell-extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions and accelerates tissue damage. Here, Pluronic F127 diacrylate (F127DA) hydrogels with PDL-matched stress relaxation rates and high elastic moduli are developed. The hydrogel viscoelasticity is modulated without chemical cross-linking by controlling precursor concentrations. Under cytomechanical loading, F127DA hydrogels with fast relaxation rates significantly improved the fibrogenic differentiation potential of PDL stem cells (PDLSCs), while cells cultured on F127DA hydrogels with various stress relaxation rates exhibited similar fibrogenic differentiation potentials with limited cell spreading and traction forces under static conditions. Mechanically, faster-relaxing F127DA hydrogels leveraged cytomechanical loading to activate PDLSC mechanotransduction by upregulating integrin-focal adhesion kinase pathway and thus cytoskeletal rearrangement, reinforcing cell-ECM interactions. In vivo experiments confirm that faster-relaxing F127DA hydrogels significantly promoted PDL repair and reduced abnormal healing (e.g., root resorption and ankyloses) in delayed replantation of avulsed teeth. This study firstly investigated how matrix nonlinear viscoelasticity influences the fibrogenesis of PDLSCs under mechanical stimuli, and it reveals the underlying mechanobiology, which suggests novel strategies for PDL regeneration.

RESUMO

RATIONALE: Implant-based breast reconstruction is an important method for post-mastectomy breast reconstruction. Currently, the most commonly used technique is the biplane technique. However, the high rate of postoperative complications, the inability of pockets to accommodate larger implants, and the expensive costs of biological mesh make the development of new surgical methods urgent. The triplane technique for breast reconstruction is an ideal candidate method. PATIENT CONCERNS: The main local symptoms were breast lump, abnormal breast skin, nipple discharge, and abnormal nipple or areola in 24 patients. DIAGNOSES: The study included 24 female patients who underwent breast reconstruction using the triplane technique after radical breast cancer surgery. INTERVENTIONS: The surgical procedure involved measuring the dimensions of the breast, designing the incision, and creating a pocket for the implant using the triplane technique, which includes the pectoralis major muscle, the pectoralis major fascia continuing to the rectus abdominis fascia, and the latissimus dorsa muscle fascia continuing to the rectus abdominis fascia. Postoperative follow-up included regular assessments of pain and evaluation of breast appearance. OUTCOMES: No cases of postoperative infection were observed in all patients. During the 1-year follow-up period after surgery, 5 patients (20.8%) who needed radiotherapy after mastectomy for cancer showed slight darkening of skin flap pigment after using the triplane technique implant. No cases of exposure or infection of the expanders were reported, and 1 patient underwent expander replacement with a permanent prosthesis. All patients expressed satisfaction with the reconstructed breast shape. The 10 patients (41.7%) experiencing postoperative swelling and pain. However, the pain gradually subsided during the postoperative recovery period. No cases of local recurrence or distant metastasis of breast cancer were observed during the 1-year-follow-up period. LESSONS: The triplane technique for breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery provides good implant coverage, reduces the risk of complications, and is cost-effective.

RESUMO

AIMS: This study aimed to investigate the resting-state functional connectivity and topologic characteristics of brain networks in patients with diabetic optic neuropathy (DON). METHODS: Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging scans were performed on 23 patients and 41 healthy control (HC) subjects. We used independent component analysis and graph theoretical analysis to determine the topologic characteristics of the brain and as well as functional network connectivity (FNC) and topologic properties of brain networks. RESULTS: Compared with HCs, patients with DON showed altered global characteristics. At the nodal level, the DON group had fewer nodal degrees in the thalamus and insula, and a greater number in the right rolandic operculum, right postcentral gyrus, and right superior temporal gyrus. In the internetwork comparison, DON patients showed significantly increased FNC between the left frontoparietal network (FPN-L) and ventral attention network (VAN). Additionally, in the intranetwork comparison, connectivity between the left medial superior frontal gyrus (MSFG) of the default network (DMN) and left putamen of auditory network was decreased in the DON group. CONCLUSION: DON patients altered node properties and connectivity in the DMN, auditory network, FPN-L, and VAN. These results provide evidence of the involvement of specific brain networks in the pathophysiology of DON.

RESUMO

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifies PFOA as a Class 1 carcinogen. Here, a new naked-eye PFOA immunochromographic strip was developed to recognize PFOA in domestic water and real human samples within 10 min based on a novel custom designed anti-PFOA monoclonal antibody (mAb) 2A3, which was firstly an immune rapid detection method for PFOA has been proposed. Using computer simulation techniques such as quantum computing to assist in designing the structural formula of PFOA semi antigen, which hapten was firstly proposed. The half maximal inhibitory concentration of PFOA monoclonal antibody (mAb) 2A3 was 2.4 µg/mL. Using mAb 2A3, we developed an immunochromatographic strip (ICS) for detecting PFOA in real samples. The developed method generated results in 10 min, with visual detection limits of 20, 20, and 200 µg/mL and limit of detection of 50, 200, and 500 µg/mL for water, blood and urine samples, respectively. The established ICS and indirect competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay were used to analyze the actual samples, and the results were confirmed by LC-MS/MS. Our study findings showed that the ICS and ic-ELISA can quickly detect PFOA in actual samples.

RESUMO

The potential mechanisms by which drought restricts cotton fiber cell wall synthesis and fiber strength formation are still not fully understood. Herein, drought experiments were conducted using two upland cotton cultivars of Dexiamian 1 (drought-tolerant) and Yuzaomian 9110 (drought-sensitive). Results showed that drought notably reduced sucrose efflux from cottonseed coats to fibers by down-regulating the expression of GhSWEET10 and GhSWEET15 in outer cottonseed coats, leading to promoted sucrose accumulation in cottonseed coats but decreased sucrose accumulation in fibers. Within cotton fibers, drought restricted the hydrolysis from sucrose to UDPG by suppressing sucrose synthase activity, and drought favored the conversion of UDPG to ß-1, 3-glucan rather than cellulose by up-regulating GhCALS5. Hence, cellulose content was reduced, which was the main reason for the decreased fiber strength under drought. Moreover, drought promoted lignin synthesis by up-regulating the expression of Gh4CL4, GhPAL9, GhCCR5, GhCAD11, and GhOMT6, which partly offset the negative influence of reduced cellulose content on fiber strength. Compared with Yuzaomian 9110, the drought-tolerance of Dexiamian 1 was evidenced in the following ways: (1) slighter blocked sucrose flow from seedcoat to fiber, (2) less ß-1, 3-glucan accumulation, and (3) more lignin biosynthesis under drought. Overall, this study provides new insights into the mechanism of drought impacting cotton fiber strength formation.

RESUMO

Myocardial infarction is defined as a sudden decrease or interruption in blood flow to the coronary arteries, causing ischemic necrosis of the corresponding cardiomyocytes. It is unclear whether systemic macrovascular alterations are associated with retinal microvascular changes. This study utilized optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) to compare variations in conjunctival vascular density and fundus retinal vessel density between patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and healthy controls. This study recruited 16 patients (32 eyes) with MI and 16 healthy controls (32 eyes). The superficial retinal layer (SRL), deep retinal layer (DRL) and conjunctival capillary plexus in each eye were evaluated by OCTA. Parameters measured included the density of the temporal conjunctival capillary, retinal microvascular (MIR) and macrovascular (MAR) alterations and total MIR (TMI). The microvascular density of each retinal region was evaluated by the hemisphere segmentation (SR, SL, IL, and IR), annular partition (C1, C2, C3, C4, C5 and C6), and modified early treatment of diabetic retinopathy study (R, S, L, and I) methods. In the macular area, the superficial and deep retinal microvascular densities displayed notable variations. In the superficial layers, the superficial TMI, superficial MIR, and superficial MAR, as well as densities in the SL, IL, S, L, C1, C2, C5 and C6 regions, were significantly lower in MI patients (p < 0.05 each). In the deep layers, the deep MIR and deep TMI), as well as densities in the SL, IL, L, C1, C2 and C6 regions were significantly lower in MI patients (p < 0.05 each). In contrast, the conjunctival microvascular density was significantly higher in MI patients than in healthy controls (p < 0.001). The microvascular densities measured in the deep and superficial retinal layers and in the conjunctiva differ in MI patients and healthy controls. OCTA is effective in detecting changes in the ocular microcirculation.

RESUMO

The calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) is a mediator of calcium signals and regulates fatty acid metabolism in mammalian cells. Cmk2p is a yeast homolog of CaMKII and functions as a negative regulator of calcium signaling. However, its substrates remain to be identified. Combination of immunoprecipitation (IP) and mass spectrometry has been proven to be very useful for identification of interacting partner proteins and interactome. In this study, through these approaches, we have identified 65 and 110 potential Cmk2p-interacting proteins in yeast cells in the absence or presence of calcium stress, respectively. In yeast cells expressing both CMK2-HA and FAS1-GFP fusion proteins, in the absence or presence of calcium stress, less amounts of FAS1-GFP proteins are present in cell lysates after IP with anti-HA antibody than cell lysates before IP, while FAS1-GFP proteins are detected on both types of IP beads. However, as an internal control, similar amounts of Pgk1p proteins were detected in both after-IP and before-IP cell lysates but not on the IP beads. Therefore, our biochemical analysis demonstrates that the ß subunit Fas1p of fatty acid synthetase interacts with Cmk2p in yeast cells independent of calcium stress. It is also interesting to note that, in addition to the expected 52-kDa CMK2-HA band, a faster-moving 48-kDa CMK2-HA band is present in the calcium-stressed cell lysate but not in the cell lysate without calcium stress. Our data would provide important clues for understanding the functions of CaMKII in the regulation of fatty acid metabolism as well as related diseases such as cancers, diabetes, and obesity.

RESUMO

Sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC, C3Cl2N3NaO3) is a solid chlorine-containing product that is widely used as a disinfectant in living environments, which has potential toxic effects on human and rats. Phascolosoma esculenta is a species native to the southeast coast of China and can be used as an indicator organism. In the present study, 150 P. esculenta were used to determine the LC50 of NaDCC for P. esculenta, then 100 P. esculenta were used to analysis the change of histopathology, oxidative stress and transcriptome after NaDCC exposure. The results showed that the LC50 of NaDCC for 48 h was 50 mg/L. NaDCC stress induced pathological events in P. esculenta, including blisters, intestinal structural damage and epithelial cell ruptured or even loss. The highest and lowest intestinal activity of superoxide dismutase in individual survivors was detected at 12 h and 72 h, respectively. Malondialdehyde levels in the intestine declined gradually from 3 h and increased at 9 h, and peaked at 12 h. Total antioxidant capacity declined at 3 h and dropped below the levels of control group after 9 h. Transcriptome sequencing analysis yielded a total of 48.65 Gb of clean data. A total of 34,759 new genes were found including 957 differentially expressed genes (DEGs). The DEGs were significantly enriched in ferroptosis, response to chemicals, response to stress, immune system, ion transport, cell death, oxidation-reduction, cellular homeostasis, protein ubiquitination, and protein neddylation. Additionally, the levels of detoxification enzymes, such as glutathione-S-transferase, cytochrome P450, ABC, UDP-glycosyltransferase and SLC transporters of endogenous and exogenous solutes were significantly changed. Overall, the results provide reference for reasonable use of disinfectants during farming, and also provide insight into the mechanisms related to NaDCC toxicity in P. esculenta.

RESUMO

White Plague Type II (WPL II) is a disease increasingly affecting scleractinian coral species and progresses rapidly. However, the etiological pathogen and remedy remain elusive. In this study, transmission experiments demonstrated that Aureimonas altamirensis and Aurantimonas coralicida, representing the WPL II pathogens, could infect Pocillopora damicorni. The infection produced selected pathological symptoms, including bleaching, tissue loss, and decolorization. Furthermore, ammonia degradation significantly reduced the severity of infection by these pathogens, indicating that ammonia may be a virulence factor for WPL II. Coral microbiome analysis suggested that ammonia degradation mediates the anti-white plague effect by maintaining the density of Symbiodiniaceae and stabilizing the core and symbiotic bacteria. Aureimonas altamirensis and Aurantimonas coralicida have been shown to cause diseases of P. damicornis, with ammonia acting as a virulence factor, and ammoniac degradation may be a promising and innovative approach to mitigate coral mortality suffering from increasing diseases.

RESUMO

Background: Although gastric adenocarcinoma (GA) related ocular metastasis (OM) is rare, its occurrence indicates a more severe disease. We aimed to utilize machine learning (ML) to analyze the risk factors of GA-related OM and predict its risks. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study. The clinical data of 3532 GA patients were collected and randomly classified into training and validation sets in a ratio of 7:3. Those with or without OM were classified into OM and non-OM (NOM) groups. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator were conducted. We integrated the variables identified through feature importance ranking and further refined the selection process using forward sequential feature selection based on random forest (RF) algorithm before incorporating them into the ML model. We applied six ML algorithms to construct the predictive GA model. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve indicated the model's predictive ability. Also, we established a network risk calculator based on the best performance model. We used Shapley additive interpretation (SHAP) to identify risk factors and to confirm the interpretability of the black box model. We have de-identified all patient details. Results: The ML model, consisting of 13 variables, achieved an optimal predictive performance using the gradient boosting machine (GBM) model, with an impressive area under the curve (AUC) of 0.997 in the test set. Utilizing the SHAP method, we identified crucial factors for OM in GA patients, including LDL, CA724, CEA, AFP, CA125, Hb, CA153, and Ca2+. Additionally, we validated the model's reliability through an analysis of two patient cases and developed a functional online web prediction calculator based on the GBM model. Conclusion: We used the ML method to establish a risk prediction model for GA-related OM and showed that GBM performed best among the six ML models. The model may identify patients with GA-related OM to provide early and timely treatment.

RESUMO

The electrochemiluminescence (ECL) behavior of a tri(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(ii) (Ru(bpy)32+)/tripropylamine (TPrA) system was investigated in sensor chips with two kinds of integrated two-electrode systems, which included screen-printed electrodes (SPE) and physical vapor deposition (PVD) electrodes. Firstly, under excitation with an optimal transient potential (TP) within 100 ms, the ECL assay could be carried out on the microchips using an Au & Au electrode system, emitting strong and stable light signal. Secondly, on the PVD chip, the ECL intensity initiated by optimal TP was eight times stronger than the peak light signal emitted by the linear sweep voltammetry model. Finally, the logarithmic ECL intensities exhibited a linear increase with the logarithmic concentrations of Ru(bpy)32+ in both the SPE and PVD chips without any reference electrode (RE). Typically, the integration of an interdigital two-electrode system in the microchip significantly enhanced the ECL sensitivity of Ru(bpy)32+ because the large relative area between the working electrode (WE) and counter electrode (CE) achieved a highly efficient mass transfer. This improvement enabled the establishment of a reliable linear relationship across a wide concentration range, spanning from 1 pM to 1 µM (R2 = 0.998). Therefore, the exceptional ECL response of the Ru(bpy)32+/TPrA system on microfluidic chips using a two-electrode system and the TP excitation model has been demonstrated. This suggests that ECL chips without a RE have broad potential for the rapid and sensitive detection of multiple targets.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Tapes dorsatus is an economically important benthic animal in the Beibu Gulf of China. However, the deficiency of microsatellite markers has hindered the study of its genetics. The development of microsatellite markers will provide useful tools for genetic improvement, variety identification, phylogenetic analysis and resource conservation. METHODS AND RESULTS: Within the genome sequence, 145,008 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were identified, and 29,691 primer pairs were designed successfully. A total of 100 primer pairs were randomly synthesized for testing, and 93 primers yielded products. Sixty highly polymorphic primers were used to reveal the genetic diversity of 50 T. dorsatus individuals. The average number of alleles (Na) of the population was 10.40; the average number of effective alleles was 6.16, the average expected heterozygosity (He) was 0.82, and the average polymorphic information content was 0.80. The genetic structure of the population was detected, by which the population could be divided into three subpopulations. CONCLUSION: We identified 145,008 SSRs in the genome of T. dorsatus and designed 29,691 primer pairs in this study. Of 100 synthesized primers, 60 were highly polymorphic and used to reveal the genetic diversity and structure of the population. The SSR markers identified here will provide useful tools and a foundation for genetic diversity, linkage mapping and molecular marker-aided breeding in T. dorsatus.

RESUMO

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of ultrasound-guided percutaneous thermal ablation (TA) for treating benign parotid tumors. Methods: Patients with benign parotid tumors who underwent ultrasound-guided microwave ablation (MWA) or radiofrequency ablation (RFA) between January 2020 and March 2023 were included in this retrospective study. Change in tumor size (maximum diameter, tumor volume(V), volume reduction rate (VRR)) and cosmetic score (CS) were evaluated during a one-year follow-up period. We also recorded the incidence of any complications associated with TA.Results: A total of 23 patients (13 males and 10 females; median age 65 years, range 5-91 years) were included. The mean VRR at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after TA was 37.03%±10.23%, 56.52%±8.76%, 82.28%±7.89%, and 89.39%±6.45%, respectively. Mean CS also changed from 3.39 ± 0.66 to 1.75 ± 0.93 (p < 0.001) by the end of follow-up time. Subgroup analysis showed that tumors with smaller initial maximum diameter had a faster CS reduction rate than those with larger initial diameter. The incidence of facial nerve dysfunction was 8.70%.Conclusion: Ultrasound-guided percutaneous TA is an effective and safe treatment option for patients with benign parotid tumors.

RESUMO

AIM: To study retinal microvascular and microstructural alterations in meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) in severely obese population using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS: Twelve MGD patients with severely obese population (PAT group; 24 eyes) and 12 healthy controls (HC group; 24 eyes) were recruited. OCTA images were segmented into five [superior (S), nasal (N), inferior (I), temporal (T), and central foveal (C)] or nine [inner superior (IS), outer superior (OS), inner nasal (IN), outer nasal (ON), inner inferior (II), outer inferior (OI), inner temporal (IT), outer temporal (OT), and C] subregions. The superficial vessel density (SVD), retinal thickness (RT), foveal avascular zone (FAZ) parameters, and retinal volume were measured. RESULTS: Visual acuity was significantly different between two groups (0.8±0.17 in PAT group vs 0.2±0.06 in HC group). SVD was significantly lower in PATs in N, T, OS, IN, OT, and ON. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for T was 0.961 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.908 to 1.000], for OS was 0.962 (95%CI: 0.915 to 1.000). RT was significantly lower in PATs in IS, OS, OI, OT, ON, IT, IN, and II. AUC for OT was 0.935 (95%CI: 0.870 to 0.999), for IS was 0.915 (95% CI: 0.838 to 0.992). Angiography results showed significantly lower area and perimeter of FAZ, SVD of the inner retina and both retinal volume and the average volume thickness in the PAT group. CONCLUSION: Vision may be affected in patients with MGD due to changes in retinal microvessels and microstructures. These changes detected by OCTA may be a potential marker for diagnosing MGD in severe obesity.

RESUMO

The increasing demand for graphite and the higher lithium content than environment abundance make the recycling of anode in spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) also become an inevitable trend. This work proposes a simple pathway to convert the retired graphite to high-performance expanded graphite (EG) under mild conditions. After the oxidation and intercalation by FeCl3 for the retired graphite, H2 O2 molecules are more likely to penetrate into the extended layers. And the gas phase diffusion caused by the produced O2 from the redox reaction between FeCl3 and H2 O2 further promotes lattice expansion of interlayers (0.535 nm), which is beneficial to the stripping of graphene oxide (GO) with fewer layers. The EG exhibits excellent electrochemical performances in both LIBs and sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). It delivers 331.5 mAh g-1 at 3C (1C = 372 mA g-1 ) in LIBs, while it achieves 176.8 mAh g-1 at 3C (1C = 120 mA g-1 ) in SIBs. Then the capacity retains 753.6 (LIBs) and 201.6 (SIBs) mAh g-1 after a long-term cycling of 500 times at 1C, respectively. The full cells with the EG electrodes after prelithium/presodiation also show excellent cycle stability. Thus, this work offers another referable strategy for the recycling of waste graphite in spent LIBs.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Clinical nurses are susceptible to compassion fatigue when exposed to various types of traumatic events in patients for extended periods of time. However, the developmental process, staging, and psychological responses distinct to each stage of compassion fatigue in nurses are not fully clarified. This study aimed to explore the processes of compassion fatigue and the psychological experiences specific to each phase of compassion fatigue among clinical nurses. METHODS: Charmaz's Constructivist Grounded Theory methodology was used in this qualitative research. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 13 clinical nurses with varying degrees of compassion fatigue from December 2020 to January 2021. Interview data were analyzed using grounded theory processes. RESULTS: The data were categorized into five separate categories and 22 sub-categories. This study found that the process of compassion fatigue is dynamic and cumulative, which was classified into five phases: compassion experience period, compassion decrement period, compassion discomfort period, compassion distress period, and compassion fatigue period. CONCLUSION: Clinical nurses who experience compassion fatigue may go through five stages that are stage-specific and predictable. The findings can shed light on local and global applications to better understand the problem of nurses' compassion fatigue. The interventions for addressing compassion fatigue in clinical nurses should be stage-specific, targeted, and individualized.
